Grip. Opposing thumbs to keep
the clubface square
So important because it connects you to the club.
Arnold palmer gripped the club tightly while jack nicklaus preferred
a light hold, however, one thing they agreed on was “ opposing
thumbs “. When you place your left hand on the club make sure
the thumb is sitting just right of centre. Now place the right hand
on top of the left thumb making sure the thumb of the right hand
is correcty positioned to the left of centre. This can be described
as a neutral hold, one hand not being more dominent than the other.
Remember, left thumb to the right / right thumb
to the left.
Stance. Move closer to relax.
I see so many golfers as tight as a drum, almost
frozen when they assume their address position. Tension is the golfer’s
waterloo, mostly caused by straight arms or over-reaching.
my advice is this, stand ½ inch closer to the ball so that
the points of your elbows can relax.
Ball position. Get forward for
better launch
With todays drivers being so big and long you need
to adjust your ball position for more consistent, accurate driving.
Peg-up the golf ball opposite your left toe and move your hands
slightly behind the ball at address, now open your feet slightly
to the left of target and swing. Trust me it works, but a modest
practice session at the range will convince you.
